Xilinx FPGA Design Flow
Two Day Workshop on Xilinx FPGA Design Flow (Theory & Practice)
Course Description
This course provides participants with an introduction to the overall context and framework for the development cycle of FPGAs. The design flow starts from user requirements to tuning specifications to the FPGA, synthesis, verification using simulation, implementation and downloading onto FPGA with hands on sessions.
Day1:
Course Outline
• Introduction to IC Technology
• Basics of FPGA Design
• Basics of Verilog HDL
• Xilinx ISE Design Suite
• Design Entry using VerilogHDL
• Synthesis using XST
• Static Timing Analysis
• Simulation using ISE Simulator
Lab Descriptions
Lab 1 - Tool Flow
Introduction to FPGA design flow : Open a project containing digital logic design examples written in Verilog.
Lab 2 - Synthesis with XST
Set various synthesis options on the design files to improve results in order to meet performance parameters.
Lab3 – Simulation with ISE
Verify the functionality of the design using Xilinx ISE simulator tool by applying different combinations of test vectors using testbench.
Day-2:
Course Outline
• Xilinx ISE Design Suite
• Synthesis Options
• I/O Pin Assignments
• Implementation
• Floor planning
• Placement and Routing
• FPGA Configuration
Lab Description
The hands on sessions give an overview of issues in synthesis and I/O-pin assignments for Xilinx FPGA boards. The lab design examples also provide implementation of basic combinational and sequential design with placement and floor planning. All the design examples will be verified by using Xilinx FPGA boards.
